Dennise Merdjanian, who operated a fraudulent student loan debt forgiveness scheme, is facing a permanent ban from the debt relief industry and telemarketing as part of a proposed order by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). This action comes after the FTC charged her and her associates with taking more than $45.9 million from consumers.
The FTC's lawsuit, filed in November 2024, accused Merdjanian and her company, Superior Servicing LLC, of falsely claiming affiliation with the U.S. Department of Education and promising student loan forgiveness to borrowers. A federal court intervened, temporarily halting the operation and freezing its assets.
In early 2025, the FTC expanded its complaint to include additional defendants, Eric Caldwell and David Hernandez, who were also involved in the scheme. By September 2025, the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada had issued orders against these individuals, banning them from the debt relief industry and imposing restrictions on their telemarketing activities.
The proposed order against Merdjanian not only bans her from providing debt relief services but also imposes a monetary judgment of over $45.9 million, which will be partially suspended due to her financial situation. Should she be found to have misrepresented her finances, the full amount will become due immediately.
This settlement resolves the litigation against the remaining defendants in the case, and the FTC has provided resources for consumers to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
