Booking.com has decided to take its Travel Sustainable program offline following concerns raised by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) about misleading sustainability claims.

24.03.2024 | Dutch competition authority

Booking.com has taken down its Travel Sustainable program globally after ACM found the program's presentation to be misleading. The program assigned scores and green leaves to accommodations, implying sustainability efforts, but failed to meet statutory requirements and provide clear information to consumers. Booking.com has committed to developing an improved system based on third-party certification. ACM aims to ensure accurate sustainability claims, protect businesses from unfair competition, and support the transition to a more sustainable economy through education and oversight.
