Significant Growth in 5G Traffic in Spain's Telecom Sector
The Spanish competition authority reports a nearly 80% increase in 5G mobile traffic in Q3 2025, reflecting ongoing growth in the telecommunications sector.

The Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) has released data indicating that mobile broadband traffic utilizing 5G technology surged by 79.6% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2025, now accounting for 20% of total mobile traffic.
Overall, the telecommunications sector in Spain continues to grow, with retail service revenues reaching €5.569 billion, marking a 0.9% increase compared to the same quarter in 2024. Major players Movistar, Vodafone, MASORANGE, and DIGI captured 85.4% of these retail revenues.
Movistar's retail revenues grew by 1.3% year-on-year, while MASORANGE's revenues remained stable. DIGI experienced a significant growth of 15.3%, contrasting with declines in revenues for Vodafone and two leading free-to-air television operators.
The deployment of next-generation access (NGA) networks also saw progress, with installed NGA connections reaching 89.5 million, a 4.8% increase from the previous year. Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connections accounted for 90.7% of fixed broadband lines, with 19.5 million total fixed broadband lines reported.
In mobile and pay-TV services, total mobile lines reached 63.7 million, with 89.4% accessing the internet via mobile devices. Subscribers to pay-TV services grew by 9.3%, reaching 12 million.
