Starting May 1, 2025, the German competition authority will undergo significant changes in the responsibilities of its decision departments. The 7th and 9th decision departments, along with decision department V, will see adjustments in their jurisdictions and leadership.
Dr. Katharina Krauß, previously head of department B7, will take over the leadership of the 9th decision department. Meanwhile, Birgit Krueger, who was leading department B9, will become the chair of the 7th decision department. These changes are part of a broader restructuring aimed at enhancing the authority's effectiveness in competition law enforcement.
Additionally, the jurisdiction for telecommunications will be assigned to decision department V. The 7th decision department will now be responsible for the information technology sector, which includes hardware and software, as well as the economic areas of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and internet-based digital distribution platforms for application software, such as app stores.
