The Bundeskartellamt, Germany's competition authority, has granted clearance for JD.com to acquire CECONOMY AG, which operates well-known brands MediaMarkt and Saturn.

Andreas Mundt, President of the Bundeskartellamt, stated that JD.com has a minimal presence in Germany, resulting in few competitive overlaps and no significant antitrust concerns.

CECONOMY AG, based in Düsseldorf, specializes in consumer electronics and household appliances, operating a nationwide network of stores and an online retail platform.

JD.com, headquartered in Beijing, is China's largest retailer by revenue, primarily active in online retail and e-commerce logistics, but has limited operations in Europe, including online shops under the brand joybuy.

The Bundeskartellamt's role is to assess the competitive implications of merger proposals, while any security-related aspects are reviewed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
