The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued a draft determination that would allow the City of Newcastle and Port Stephens Council to collaborate on the procurement of food and garden organics (FOGO) processing services.
This joint initiative includes negotiating and entering into separate contracts for the provision of these services, as well as delivering education and communication services related to FOGO.
The ACCC's proposal aims to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in waste management for both councils, with the authorization set to last until 30 June 2036.
The ACCC is currently inviting submissions regarding this draft determination, with a deadline for responses set for Friday, 20 February 2026, before making a final decision.
Further information about the application and submission process can be found on the ACCC's public register.
