In 2023, competition among rail operators in Spain led to a significant decrease in high-speed rail ticket prices, with Renfe Viajeros maintaining the largest market share. Iryo and Ouigo also held substantial market shares in specific corridors. The decrease in prices and increase in passengers impacted various services, including Media Distancia, Cercanías, and Larga Distancia Convencional. Additionally, the transportation of goods saw fluctuations in tonnage and kilometers transported, with companies like Medway and Captrain experiencing growth while Renfe Mercancías and Transfesa faced declines.
