The Latvian competition authority (KP) received a merger notification on September 25, 2026, from OÜ Infortar Agro concerning its acquisition of decisive influence over UAB LITAGRA.
OÜ Infortar Agro is a holding company owned by AS Infortar, which operates in agriculture and biogas production. The AS Infortar group is involved in various sectors, including energy, real estate, hotel management, and financial investment management, primarily in Latvia.
UAB LITAGRA and its related companies mainly operate in the agricultural sector in Lithuania, with UAB Joniškio grūdai being the only related company active in Latvia. This company produces animal feed and sells it, including in Latvia.
The merger notification indicates that the merging parties do not operate in the same specific market, thus there is no overlap in their activities. However, a potential vertical link has been identified between their operations, particularly concerning the sale of combined animal feed and dairy farming.
The KP must decide on the merger's approval, prohibition, or conditional approval within one month of receiving the notification. If a more in-depth investigation is required, the decision period may be extended to three months.
Market participants or other interested parties wishing to provide feedback on the merger's impact on competition are invited to do so by October 9, 2026.
