Portuguese Competition Authority Identifies Barriers to Electric Vehicle Recharging Network Expansion and Issues Recommendations to Government

21.01.2024 | Portuguese competition authority

The Portuguese Competition Authority has identified barriers to the expansion of the electric vehicle recharging network and has issued recommendations to the government and municipalities to promote competition and efficiency in the sector.

The Portuguese Competition Authority (AdC) has conducted an analysis of the competition conditions in the electric vehicle recharging sector and has identified barriers that could hinder the development and expansion of a competitive and efficient network. The AdC has issued seven recommendations to the government and municipalities to address these barriers and promote competition in the sector. The study is currently under public consultation until March 1, 2024. The recommendations include measures to ensure non-discriminatory access to recharging infrastructure, promote interoperability, and prevent anti-competitive practices. The AdC is inviting interested parties to submit comments and complaints during the consultation period.
