The Greek competition authority has successfully completed a public consultation on November 6, 2025, regarding its interim report on the crucial maritime sector. This sector is vital for ensuring connectivity among islands, supporting tourism, regional development, and contributing significantly to GDP and employment.

The consultation involved representatives from the state, businesses operating in the sector, users of maritime services, and academics. Key discussion topics included the need for a systematic approach to maritime services, the connection with port infrastructure, market concentration, and barriers to entry for new providers.

Other important issues addressed were the seasonal nature of services, pricing elasticity for different consumer groups, the age of the fleet, and the significance of funding for maritime operations. The authority has extended the deadline for submitting comments on the interim report until December 1, 2025.
