The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) is set to organize the next International Competition Network (ICN) Cartel Workshop in Budapest in September 2027. This event is recognized as one of the most significant international conferences on cartel law.

Since its establishment in 2001, the ICN has been a vital network comprising over 140 national and multinational competition authorities, aimed at promoting the harmonization of competition law rules and enforcement. The ICN supports effective and consistent competition law enforcement worldwide through practical recommendations, working groups, and annual conferences.

The GVH has been actively involved in the ICN for over two decades, having co-chaired the Cartel Working Group from 2004 to 2012 and participated in various subgroups. The authority's contributions were acknowledged when it hosted the ICN annual global conference in October 2021, and its president was elected as a permanent member of the ICN Steering Group in the fall of 2023.

During the 2025 ICN conference, Csaba Balázs Rigó's membership in the Steering Group was reaffirmed, and the GVH was re-elected as co-chair of the Cartel Working Group until 2027. As a result, the GVH will host the ICN Cartel Workshop in September 2027, where top competition law experts from around the world will gather to discuss current issues related to cartel enforcement. Originally scheduled for the fall of 2026, the event was postponed for professional reasons.

The GVH is notably active in cartel enforcement, currently investigating 22 different cartel cases involving approximately 1,800 tenders. The number of companies involved in ongoing cartel proceedings exceeds 250. In 2025, the GVH closed three cartel cases with fines totaling 2.2 billion HUF and initiated five new cases. In 2026, six new cartel proceedings were launched.

In 2025, the GVH concluded several major cartel cases with significant fines, including a case involving companies manufacturing and distributing medical devices and a refuse truck cartel case, which resulted in over 1.5 billion HUF in fines imposed on six companies. Approximately 60% of the competition supervision fines imposed by the GVH in 2025 were related to cartel cases.
