The European Consumer Protection Cooperation Network (CPC) and the European Commission are jointly addressing practices by Temu that are deemed to violate EU consumer protection laws, aiming to align the platform's operations with relevant EU regulations.
The investigation identified problematic practices on the Temu platform, such as misleading discounts, psychological pressure tactics, forced games, lack of information, fake reviews, and hidden contacts.
The authorities have requested Temu to respond to the findings and propose commitments to address the consumer protection issues within a month, or face enforcement actions by national authorities.
The Hungarian Competition Authority initiated proceedings against Temu in March 2024, suspecting unfair commercial practices towards consumers, including misleading pricing and environmental impact claims.
