The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has initiated a follow-up investigation into Wizz Air to verify compliance with a previous ruling. The airline was fined over 300 million forints for misleading practices related to its check-in services and additional service packages.

In August 2024, the GVH imposed a fine of approximately 307 million forints on Wizz Air after determining that the airline failed to adequately inform consumers about the option to purchase additional services separately, thereby steering customers towards more expensive package deals. Additionally, the airline was found to have engaged in commercial practices that violated the requirement of professional diligence regarding the content and limitations of its automatic check-in service.

As part of its decision, the GVH prohibited the continuation of the unlawful practices related to the automatic check-in service and mandated Wizz Air to demonstrate compliance. Although Wizz Air submitted documentation to the GVH within the specified deadlines, the authority could not ascertain proper compliance based on the provided documents, prompting the follow-up investigation.

The GVH emphasizes the importance of companies fulfilling their obligations as outlined in its decisions and the necessity of providing adequate proof of compliance within the stipulated timeframes. In cases of incomplete compliance or failure to provide proof, the GVH may impose further fines on the involved company.
