The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has opposed MicroStar's proposed acquisition of Konvoy's assets, citing concerns over reduced competition in the keg pooling market.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has decided to block MicroStar Logistics LLC's proposed acquisition of Konvoy Holdings Pty Ltd's assets, which would have made MicroStar the sole supplier of keg pooling services in Australia.

MicroStar, operating as Kegstar in Australia, notified the ACCC of its acquisition proposal in February 2026. The ACCC's assessment concluded that the acquisition would likely lead to a substantial lessening of competition in the keg pooling services market.

ACCC Commissioner Dr. Philip Williams stated that without competition, MicroStar could raise prices and lower service quality, particularly affecting independent brewers who rely on keg pooling services. The ACCC emphasized that self-supply of kegs is not a viable alternative for these brewers.

The ACCC also noted that there was little likelihood of new competitors entering the market in a timely manner to counteract any potential price increases or service reductions by MicroStar post-acquisition.

Despite Konvoy being in receivership since March 2025, the ACCC believes there is a chance that its assets could be acquired by another buyer, allowing the business to continue under new ownership.

MicroStar had sought informal merger clearance from the ACCC in June 2025, with the decision to oppose the acquisition announced in October 2025. Further details can be found on the ACCC’s Acquisitions Register.
