Today, the High-Level Group for the Digital Markets Act (DMA) held its fourth meeting in Brussels, featuring a keynote address by Executive Vice-President Ribera. This gathering commemorates the first anniversary of the DMA's obligations coming into effect and marks two years since the establishment of the High-Level Group.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to the effective implementation of the DMA, emphasizing the importance of a consistent regulatory approach across various instruments. Key discussion points included updates on DMA monitoring and enforcement since the last meeting in May 2024, as well as insights from thematic sub-groups focusing on data-related obligations, interoperability, and artificial intelligence.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the collaborative efforts between the European Commission and the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) regarding guidance on the relationship between the DMA and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as well as its interaction with the enforcement of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
The DMA aims to foster fair and contestable markets in the digital sector by regulating 'gatekeepers'—large digital platforms that serve as critical intermediaries between business users and consumers. The High-Level Group consists of representatives from various European regulatory bodies, including BEREC, EDPB, and the European Competition Network (ECN).
Through its advisory role, the High-Level Group aims to ensure coherent implementation of the DMA and other relevant regulations for gatekeepers, while also providing expertise for market investigations into emerging services and practices to keep the DMA relevant for the future.
