The Greek competition authority has accepted commitments from PUBLIC RETAIL A.E. to address concerns regarding a contractual term that may restrict competition in various markets.

On November 4, 2025, the Greek Competition Authority unanimously accepted and made mandatory the commitments proposed by PUBLIC RETAIL A.E. to address concerns arising from a preliminary assessment regarding a price protection clause in its contracts with suppliers.

The authority evaluated the compatibility of this clause with Greek and EU competition laws in markets including the wholesale and retail trade of school bags, children's toys, and large household appliances.

The contested contractual term involves price protection provided to PUBLIC by suppliers, which could pressure suppliers to maintain resale prices, potentially leading to artificial price alignment among retailers and limiting competitive behavior.

Despite not admitting to any violation of competition rules, PUBLIC proposed to eliminate the clause and committed not to include it in future contracts, which the authority deemed sufficient to alleviate competition concerns.

The decision does not constitute a final judgment on any violation, and non-compliance with the commitments may result in fines imposed by the authority.
