UOKiK imposed fines totaling nearly 1 million PLN on Selfmaker Smart Solutions and Selfmaker Technology for their roles in a pyramid scheme where benefits were primarily dependent on recruiting others into the system.
The companies were found to have spread false information to attract capital, with Selfmaker Smart Solutions misleading investors about using token sales to invest in Selfmaker Technology and failing to deliver promised profits.
Additionally, Selfmaker Technology's financial reports revealed losses contrary to marketing claims of significant profits, potentially leaving investors without returns.
The distribution of tokens through a pyramid promotional system, targeting vulnerable consumers like the hearing-impaired, led to UOKiK's decision to penalize the companies and their executives.
