The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA) has initiated further proceedings regarding the proposed merger between L&T Ympäristöpalvelut Oy and Kempeleen Siirtokuljetus Oy. This investigation follows an initial review that raised concerns about the competitive effects of the acquisition.

L&T Ympäristöpalvelut, part of the Lassila & Tikanoja Plc group, offers a variety of waste management services across Finland. In contrast, Kempeleen Siirtokuljetus operates specifically in Northern Ostrobothnia, providing similar services for both businesses and households.

The FCCA's initial findings suggest that the merger could negatively impact competition, particularly in the non-hazardous waste management market in Northern Ostrobothnia. The merger would unite two of the region's largest private waste management companies, each holding significant market positions at various stages of the waste management value chain.

As the investigation progresses, the FCCA may either approve the acquisition, approve it with conditions, or recommend that the Market Court block the deal. The investigation process is expected to take up to 69 working days, with the possibility of an extension by the Market Court for an additional 46 working days.
