The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has imposed a penalty of $39,600 on SIA Booking Group Corporation, operating as EconomyBookings, for breaching Australian Consumer Law. The infringement notices were issued due to misleading pricing representations on the company's website.

According to the ACCC, EconomyBookings failed to display the total price for car rental services prominently as a single figure during the booking process. Additionally, the platform made false representations regarding the inclusion of pre-selected optional extras in the displayed rental price.

ACCC Commissioner Luke Woodward emphasized the importance of compliance with Australian Consumer Law, stating that businesses must clearly display the total price of goods and services, including any optional extras. The ACCC's allegations highlight that EconomyBookings displayed an initial rental price of $147.10, while the total cost, including optional extras, amounted to $315.04.

The ACCC clarified that the penalty does not imply an admission of wrongdoing by EconomyBookings, and further information on pricing display laws can be found on the ACCC's website.
