Bundeskartellamt Allows Joint Advertising Space Marketing by AdAlliance and Bauer

10.11.2024 | German competition authority

The Bundeskartellamt approves the collaboration between Bauer and AdAlliance to jointly market advertising space in popular magazine titles, despite concerns about potential limitations on competition.

The Bundeskartellamt has approved the plans of Bauer and AdAlliance to jointly market Bauer's advertising inventory through AdAlliance. The cooperation project involves popular magazine titles in the categories of food/drink, living/interior design, and women's magazines.

The decision allows Bauer and AdAlliance to jointly market advertising space based on a cooperation contract. The Bundeskartellamt found that the cooperation would limit options for potential advertising customers but ultimately decided to tolerate the project, subject to certain changes in the cooperation agreement.

The investigations revealed that without the marketing cooperation, some magazine titles or the marketing of their advertising space might have been discontinued due to economic viability concerns. Customers still have alternative options to shift their advertising budgets to other media forms or competitors' offerings.
