The Wiggles Holdings Pty Ltd has acknowledged that it likely violated the Australian Consumer Law by selling Emma Bow headbands without the required safety warnings regarding button batteries. This admission comes as part of a commitment to enhance consumer safety awareness.

The Emma Bow headband, designed for children, features lights powered by button batteries. Between June 2022 and March 2024, The Wiggles sold these headbands without informing consumers about the potential dangers of button batteries, which can cause severe injuries or even death if swallowed.

In response to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) investigation, The Wiggles has provided a court-enforceable undertaking and pledged to implement a consumer law compliance program. The importer and distributor, CA Australia Pty Ltd, has also committed to improving its compliance with consumer laws.

As part of their cooperation, The Wiggles will produce a podcast episode discussing the recall of the Emma Bow headband and the safety issues related to button batteries. The product has been recalled, and consumers are advised to refer to the ACCC's recall notice for further information.

The ACCC emphasizes the importance of compliance with button battery safety standards, as these batteries pose significant risks to young children. The authority encourages consumers to check for button battery products in their homes and take necessary precautions.
