The CMA has provisionally cleared the merger between Arçelik and Whirlpool, two major suppliers of domestic appliances in the UK, after finding no significant competition concerns.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has provisionally approved the merger between Arçelik and Whirlpool, two leading suppliers of major domestic appliances (MDAs) in the UK. The CMA's independent panel conducted an in-depth Phase 2 investigation, considering evidence from various stakeholders. Despite Arçelik and Whirlpool's strong market positions, the panel found that competition in the MDA sector remains robust due to the presence of other significant suppliers like BSH, Haier Group, Samsung, LG, and retailers' private label brands. The competitive landscape has evolved over the years, with Whirlpool's market position declining while newer entrants like Haier Group and Hisense have gained traction. The CMA is now seeking feedback on its provisional findings before issuing a final report.
