The European Commission has released a summary and individual contributions from a consultation regarding the ongoing review of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This review is part of a legal requirement to assess the DMA every three years to ensure its effectiveness in the rapidly changing digital market landscape.
Over 450 contributions were submitted by a diverse group of stakeholders, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), gatekeepers, civil society organizations, academics, and individual citizens. The responses generally indicate strong support for the DMA's objectives, with many highlighting the benefits already realized from the regulation.
However, some respondents have called for enhancements in areas such as interoperability, data access, and data portability, as well as increased support for SMEs. Additionally, there are requests to expand the DMA's scope to include aspects related to artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud services.
On the other hand, gatekeepers have raised concerns regarding the impact of the DMA on user experience and have questioned the proportionality of certain measures. The feedback collected will inform the Commission's review report, which is due to be presented by May 3, 2026, to the European Parliament, the Council, and the European Economic and Social Committee.
The public consultation, which began on July 3, 2025, was complemented by a call for evidence and a dedicated questionnaire on AI, published on August 26, 2025. Contributions from this call for evidence are already available to the public.
