CMA Supports Enhanced Financial Protections in Microgeneration Certification Scheme

27.05.2025 | UK competition authority

The UK competition authority, CMA, has responded positively to proposed changes in the Microgeneration Certification Scheme aimed at improving financial protections for consumers.

The UK competition authority, known as the CMA, has issued a response to the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) regarding its consultation on proposed changes to financial protection requirements for certified installers.

This response is part of the CMA's broader efforts to enhance consumer protection within the green heating and insulation sector. The CMA has been focusing on good practice principles for standards bodies and evaluating the effectiveness of the current standards landscape.

The CMA's response expresses support for MCS's intention to bolster the financial protections offered by its certified installers. It acknowledges that several proposed changes to the minimum requirements for approved financial protection products could effectively address previously identified gaps in consumer protections.

Furthermore, the CMA encourages other standards bodies to continuously assess their financial protection mechanisms to ensure they remain adequate and to implement necessary changes.
