22.05.2024 | Hungarian competition authority

A Hungarian competition authority initiated a procedure against Natur Tanya Hungary Kft. and Naturweb Kft. for suspected violations of the prohibition of unfair commercial practices towards consumers. The companies are accused of misleading consumers with claims related to health, disease prevention, and treatment on their websites.

The authority observed that the businesses promoted dietary supplements, food products, cosmetics, and medical devices with health-related claims that they likely cannot substantiate, as well as using prohibited or false therapeutic claims.

Furthermore, it was noted that the companies' commercial practices, starting from January 1, 2022, likely did not meet the requirement of professional diligence in relation to the statements made.

The initiation of the competition supervision procedure does not imply that the companies have committed an infringement. The purpose of the procedure is to clarify the facts and prove the alleged infringement(s). The duration of the procedure is three months, extendable twice for up to two months each if necessary.
