Norwegian Competition Authority Approves Merger with Conditions
The Norwegian competition authority has approved the merger of Infomedia and Retriever, contingent upon the sale of Infomedia Norway to maintain market competition.
15.07.2025 | Norwegian competition authority
The Norwegian competition authority has granted conditional approval for Infomedia Retriever Holding to acquire shares in both Retriever and Infomedia. This decision comes with the stipulation that Infomedia Norway must be sold to a suitable buyer to ensure ongoing effective competition in Norway's media monitoring services market.
Infomedia Retriever Holding, established in 2024, aims to own shares in Retriever and Infomedia, both of which are leading providers of media monitoring, analysis, and archiving services in Norway. The merger would have resulted in a dominant market player, significantly reducing competition between the two companies.
Concerns were raised by the competition authority regarding the potential hindrance to effective competition in the media monitoring services market, as the competitive pressure between the two companies would diminish. In response to these concerns, Infomedia Retriever Holding has proposed several remedial measures, including the commitment to sell Infomedia Norway AS to an independent buyer approved by the competition authority.
Additionally, Infomedia Retriever Holding will provide the buyer with access to existing agreements and rights to ensure that Infomedia can continue to operate as a viable competitor in the market. The competition authority believes these measures will allow Infomedia to function as a fully operational entity, thereby facilitating continued effective competition in Norway's media monitoring services sector.
