The Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) has been appointed to preside over the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) in 2027. This decision was made during a plenary session held in Sofia, Bulgaria, where Alejandra de Iturriaga, the director of Telecommunications and Audiovisual Sector at CNMC, was elected as president.

De Iturriaga, who has previously served as vice president of BEREC in 2017, 2021, and 2025, expressed her honor and responsibility in leading BEREC during a time of significant transformation in the electronic communications sector. She emphasized the impact of these changes on competitiveness and the digital future of Europe.

As a member of BEREC, the CNMC plays a crucial role in developing the European single market for electronic communications through the coordinated application of EU sectoral regulations.
