The Dutch competition authority, ACM, is set to gradually introduce a feed-in tariff aimed at encouraging large electricity producers to utilize the grid more efficiently, ultimately reducing costs for consumers.

The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) is advancing plans to implement a feed-in tariff for large electricity producers, including solar parks and wind farms. This initiative aims to incentivize these producers to use the grid efficiently, thereby minimizing the need for costly grid upgrades.

ACM's gradual approach allows all market participants, including energy producers and system operators, ample time to adapt to the new tariff structure. Manon Leijten, a board member of ACM, emphasized the necessity of this tariff to control the significant investments required for grid upgrades in the coming years.

The feed-in tariff is designed to align with European legislation, ensuring that grid tariffs are set objectively and non-discriminatorily. Other European nations, such as Belgium and Denmark, have already adopted similar tariffs, and ACM plans to synchronize its tariff level with Germany's, the Netherlands' largest trading partner in the energy sector.

ACM has also been responsive to market participants' concerns regarding renewable energy development and supply security, which were highlighted during a public consultation in late 2025. The authority is committed to considering these concerns as it moves forward with the feed-in tariff implementation.
