On June 17, 2025, Csaba Balázs Rigó, the president of the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH), visited the National Coordination Center of the Ecumenical Relief Organization to discuss the recent natural disaster in Székelyföld. During the visit, he expressed appreciation for the GVH employees' financial contributions aimed at helping victims of the disaster, which severely impacted the region.
The natural disaster, caused by heavy rains at the end of May, led to rivers overflowing and significant damage across Székelyföld. In Parajd, the Korond stream flooded the salt mine, threatening the livelihoods of local families. Additionally, nearly 400 residents were evacuated from several towns in Kovászna County due to rising waters.
In response to the disaster, the Ecumenical Relief Organization launched a nationwide campaign to provide support to affected families, focusing on alleviating damages and facilitating recovery efforts. Rigó emphasized the noble act of helping those in need, particularly when it involves fellow countrymen, highlighting the collective effort as a patriotic act.
Gáncs Kristóf, the executive director of the Ecumenical Relief Organization, reported that they immediately initiated a relief program upon arriving at the disaster site. They provided hygiene products, food, and drinking water to those affected and began distributing construction materials to assist in the restoration of damaged properties.
The GVH community also organized an internal fundraising campaign in the first two weeks of June, with collected donations sent to the Ecumenical Relief Organization on June 13. The GVH has a tradition of supporting those in need, having previously organized donation drives during the Advent season and for COVID-19 orphans.
