The Czech competition authority has concluded that the merger between Krajská nemocnice Liberec and Nemocnice s poliklinikou Česká Lípa does not require approval as it does not constitute a merger under competition law.

The Czech competition authority, Úřad pro ochranu hospodářské soutěže (ÚOHS), has completed its administrative proceedings regarding the planned merger of Krajská nemocnice Liberec, a.s. (KNL) and Nemocnice s poliklinikou Česká Lípa, a.s. (NSPČL). The authority determined that the transaction does not qualify as a merger of competitors under the competition law, and therefore, it does not require approval from ÚOHS.

The merger will be executed based on a 'Merger Project' prepared on November 20, 2025. As a result of this merger, NSPČL will be dissolved, and all its assets will be transferred to KNL, which will become the successor company. The authority assessed the transaction and concluded that both hospitals are not independent competitors, as they are already controlled by the Liberec region prior to the planned merger.
