High Court Rejects Disqualified Demolition Director's Bid to Stay in Role

07.02.2024 | UK competition authority

The High Court denied Nicholas Brown's application to continue acting as a director of Brown and Mason Group after his disqualification for involvement in bid-rigging in the demolition industry.

In a case involving bid-rigging in the demolition industry, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) fined 10 construction firms and disqualified 4 directors, including Nicholas Brown of Brown and Mason Group, for illegal collusion. Brown admitted to orchestrating compensation payments and was disqualified for 7 years. The High Court rejected Brown's bid to remain a director, citing the seriousness of his conduct and the importance of director disqualifications in enforcing competition law. Brown can stay in his role under strict conditions until July 2024, after which he is barred from directorship until 2030.
