The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) is interested in understanding the perspectives of middle school students on artificial intelligence (AI). To facilitate this, the GVH has announced a national competition aimed at students in grades 5-8, where they can submit their thoughts and ideas about the future of AI.
A recent survey conducted by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) revealed that 97.8% of Hungarian children aged 13-16 have heard of AI, and 76.5% have used AI-based programs at least once. This indicates a rapid adoption of generative AI technologies among teenagers.
The competition encourages students to become active participants in discussions about AI, rather than just users. They can submit their entries in the form of presentations, short videos, or posters, allowing them to influence future education, development, and regulation of AI.
In conjunction with the competition, the GVH will host a conference titled “We Are the Future of AI” in the fall, specifically designed for children. This interactive event will allow competition winners to present their works, fostering dialogue among students and teachers about AI. Participants will gain deeper insights into how AI works, its societal impacts, and the opportunities and risks it presents.
The GVH is committed to protecting children and families, having launched its “Digital Awareness Program” in 2024. This initiative aims to raise awareness of online dangers and prepare young people for responsible internet use. The educational program consists of two 45-minute interactive sessions tailored to different age groups, with ongoing opportunities for schools to participate.
