The Supreme Audit Office (NIK) has completed an extensive audit of the Polish Competition Authority (UOKiK), covering its operations from 2020 to 2025. The audit involved a detailed analysis of over 20,000 pages of documents, confirming the authority's reliability in identifying negative market phenomena and detecting violations.

UOKiK's President, Tomasz Chróstny, received commendation for the authority's proactive and reactive measures in eliminating unfair market practices. The audit highlighted UOKiK's effectiveness in enforcing competition law, with 679 decisions imposing fines amounting to over 603 million PLN during the audit period.

The NIK's review encompassed all aspects of UOKiK's operations, including document handling procedures and the initiation of investigations. The audit also examined UOKiK's actions in various sectors, such as retail, agriculture, and media, focusing on practices like undisclosed discounts and pricing discrepancies.

In the agricultural sector, the audit scrutinized UOKiK's interventions regarding the pork market and milk processing, as well as its monitoring of trade conditions amid the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF). The authority's actions were found to effectively identify and address market irregularities.

Overall, the NIK's positive assessment serves as a testament to UOKiK's commitment to fostering fair competition and consumer protection in Poland, enhancing public trust in the authority's capabilities.
