Portuguese Authorities Investigate Aerial Firefighting Cartel

28.05.2025 | Portuguese competition authority

The Portuguese Competition Authority is collaborating with the Criminal Investigation Police in raids targeting suspected collusion in aerial firefighting procurement.

The Portuguese Competition Authority (AdC) has confirmed its involvement in search and seizure operations conducted by the Portuguese Criminal Investigation Police (Polícia Judiciária). These operations are driven by suspicions of corruption and collusion in public tenders related to the procurement of aerial firefighting resources.

AdC officials participated in inspections at four business locations across the North, Greater Lisbon, and Algarve regions. This joint effort highlights the cooperation between the AdC and the Polícia Judiciária, both of which are conducting parallel investigations that are currently under judicial secrecy.

The focus of the AdC's investigation is on suspected collusion among companies involved in public procurement procedures for supplying aerial firefighting means. The outcome of these investigations could have significant implications for the companies involved and the integrity of public procurement processes in Portugal.
