The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has initiated a competition supervision procedure against Nutriversum Kft. due to suspected violations of sector regulations regarding health claims and illegal marketing practices. The authority observed that the company likely uses health-related claims in its commercial communications that do not comply with applicable regulations.

Since February 2022, Nutriversum has allegedly made health claims about its products that cannot be substantiated, such as stating that calcium pyruvate supports dieting. Additionally, the company is suspected of attributing properties to its food products that suggest they can prevent, treat, or cure human diseases, despite a sector ban on such claims.

The investigation does not imply that Nutriversum has committed a legal violation; it is aimed at clarifying the facts and proving the alleged infringement. The procedure is expected to last three months, with the possibility of two extensions if justified.

The GVH emphasizes the importance of careful communication in advertising food products, particularly dietary supplements, and has noted that many companies often make mistakes in this area. The authority has previously initiated several procedures for similar violations, urging businesses to communicate thoughtfully and cautiously.
