The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has authorized the Australian Banking Association to collaborate on cash distribution and business continuity planning with specific conditions.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued a final determination allowing the Australian Banking Association (ABA) and other industry participants to collaborate on initiatives aimed at ensuring the continued distribution of cash across Australia.

This collaboration includes developing business continuity measures to address potential disruptions in cash-in-transit services. The ACCC has granted this authorization with specific conditions, including requirements for reporting and transparency.

One key condition mandates that the ABA must conduct reasonable consultations regarding cash-in-transit initiatives before any in-principle agreements are made. The ACCC believes that, with these conditions in place, the collaboration is likely to yield public benefits that outweigh any potential public detriment.

The authorization granted by the ACCC is valid until 31 December 2026, allowing the ABA and its partners to proceed with their plans while adhering to the established conditions.
