15.05.2025 | Norwegian competition authority
The Norwegian competition authority, Konkurransetilsynet, has imposed a reporting obligation on Norva 24 Holding AS and its affiliated companies. This requirement will take effect from May 16, 2025, and will last until December 31, 2026.
Norva 24 is required to inform the authority about all mergers, acquisitions, and minority interests in markets such as waste management and pipe renewal services in Norway. This obligation also extends to acquisitions that fall below the notification thresholds set by competition law, specifically for companies with revenues under 100 million Norwegian kroner.
The purpose of this reporting obligation is to provide the competition authority with information on mergers and acquisitions that are not subject to mandatory notification. This will help assess whether it is necessary to impose a notification requirement to prevent reduced competition, particularly when smaller players are acquired by larger firms, which could lead to higher prices and poorer offerings for consumers.
The competition authority continuously evaluates the need for reporting obligations across various markets and may extend these requirements to additional players in the future.
Other markets and companies currently under reporting obligations until December 31, 2025, include Nordic Concrete Group AS, Verisure AS, and Mer Norway AS, among others. Additionally, companies in the fuel, energy, and waste sectors are also subject to similar obligations until December 31, 2026.
