The Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has closed investigations into TV broadcasters Polsat and Discovery group companies, determining that their actions did not affect the packages offered to subscribers.

The investigations focused on whether the wholesale sale conditions of TV programs between broadcasters and operators could harm competition.

In April 2021, UOKiK initiated antitrust proceedings against Polsat and four Discovery group companies, suspecting potential abuse of dominant position. However, after detailed analysis, the authority found insufficient evidence of legal violations and terminated the investigations.

Concerns were raised about the broadcasters potentially forcing TV operators to create overly extensive program packages, limiting their ability to offer thematic or premium packages, which could impact consumer choice and market competition.
