In a significant enforcement action, EU and Irish consumer authorities have ordered the removal of 252 baby product listings from various online marketplaces. This decision comes after a thorough examination of 1,741 listings as part of a coordinated sweep aimed at ensuring compliance with new product safety legislation introduced in December 2024.

The sweep, conducted in April and May 2025, revealed that many products failed to meet essential safety and compliance information requirements. Notably, 72 of the takedown orders were issued by Ireland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), targeting items such as baby carriers, slings, and baby walkers. These listings were promptly removed from major platforms including Amazon, Shein, Etsy, eBay, Fruugo, and Joom.

CCPC safety officers emphasized the importance of clear product safety information, which includes details about the manufacturer and the EU responsible person. This information is vital for protecting babies and children from potentially dangerous or faulty products. Brian McHugh, chair of the CCPC, highlighted the responsibility of online marketplaces to ensure transparency and safety for consumers.

The swift cooperation from online marketplaces in removing the listings demonstrates a commitment to consumer safety and compliance with EU regulations. The CCPC's proactive measures have effectively prevented hundreds of unsafe products from being sold to Irish consumers, reinforcing the importance of product safety in the online retail environment.
