Today, the High-Level Group on the Digital Markets Act (DMA) successfully concluded its sixth Plenary meeting in Brussels. The meeting aimed to advance cooperation among EU digital regulations and featured insights from Professors Vicky Robertson, Orla Lynskey, and Belle Beems on the future of digital regulation.
During the meeting, the group exchanged updates on DMA enforcement actions and investigations, particularly concerning Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cloud services. The discussions also highlighted the application of regulatory actions by national authorities regarding designated gatekeepers.
The High-Level Group's priorities focus on driving tangible market changes through the application of the DMA and other EU digital rules. The group also reviewed its working methods to effectively utilize the expertise of national authorities, drawing lessons from the enforcement of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
By fostering collaboration among regulators with digital expertise, the High-Level Group aims to ensure coherent and effective implementation of EU digital frameworks, ultimately promoting innovation and fairness in the digital landscape.
The DMA is designed to ensure contestable and fair markets in the digital sector, regulating gatekeepers—large digital platforms that serve as critical gateways between business users and consumers, potentially creating bottlenecks in the digital economy.
Established on 23 March 2023, the High-Level Group provides the European Commission with advice and expertise to ensure coherent implementation of the DMA and other regulations applicable to gatekeepers. The group includes representatives from various European regulatory bodies.
