On January 22, 2026, the Competition Bureau of Canada released a report titled 'What We Heard,' which compiles feedback from a public consultation on algorithmic pricing and its implications for competition.

The consultation, which took place from June 10 to August 4, 2025, garnered over 100 submissions from a diverse group of stakeholders, including individuals, businesses, industry associations, and consumer interest groups.

The report identifies four key themes from the feedback: the efficiency of dynamically set prices, the potential for anticompetitive behavior, the need for data transparency, and the importance of government regulations that balance competition with innovation.

Acting Commissioner of Competition, Jeanne Pratt, emphasized the dual nature of algorithmic pricing, noting its potential to enhance efficiency while also posing risks related to fairness and transparency. The Bureau aims to deepen its understanding of these emerging issues as it continues to engage with various stakeholders.
