Irish Competition Authority Investigates Dalata's Acquisition of CG Hotels

16.04.2025 | Irish competition authority

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has launched a full investigation into Dalata Hotel Group's proposed acquisition of CG Hotels, focusing on potential impacts on competition.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) in Ireland has initiated a full Phase 2 investigation into the proposed acquisition of CG Hotels Limited by DHGL Limited, a subsidiary of Dalata Hotel Group plc. This investigation follows the notification of the transaction to the CCPC on November 27, 2024.

Dalata Hotel Group operates several hotels, including the Maldron and Clayton brands, while CG Hotels runs the Radisson Blu Hotel at Dublin Airport. If the acquisition proceeds, Dalata would take over the operations of the Radisson Blu, which raises concerns about the potential effects on competition in the hotel market.

The CCPC's role is to assess mergers and acquisitions to prevent any harmful effects on competition, particularly regarding consumer prices, choice, quality, and innovation. The commission has determined that a detailed investigation is necessary to evaluate whether the proposed transaction could substantially lessen competition in the Irish market.

As part of the investigation process, the CCPC is inviting public submissions regarding the proposed deal. Interested parties can submit their views via email by May 2, 2025. The CCPC emphasizes the importance of identifying any confidential information in submissions and offers the option for anonymity to protect the identity of those providing input.

While the investigation is ongoing, the CCPC has stated that it cannot disclose further details about the case. The CCPC is responsible for enforcing competition and consumer protection laws in Ireland, aiming to enhance market efficiency and encourage competition among businesses.
