Bundeskartellamt Evaluates Google's Commitments on Automotive Services
The Bundeskartellamt is assessing Google's proposed solutions to address competition concerns regarding its Automotive Services, following objections about its bundling practices.

The Bundeskartellamt, Germany's competition authority, has raised concerns about Google's practices related to its Automotive Services, which include Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play. The authority believes that Google's bundling of these services may violate competition rules, potentially harming competitors and expanding Google's market power.
In response to these concerns, Google has proposed several commitments aimed at addressing the issues identified by the Bundeskartellamt. These include offering separate products such as the Google Maps OEM Software Development Kit, Google Play Store, and Cloud Custom Assistant, which would allow vehicle manufacturers to develop their own navigation services and applications.
Additionally, Google has indicated a willingness to remove contractual provisions that require vehicle manufacturers to exclusively pre-install Google Assistant and to set Google services as default applications. The company also plans to enhance interoperability between its services and third-party offerings.
The Bundeskartellamt is currently conducting a market test to gather feedback from vehicle manufacturers and competitors on Google's proposals. The outcome of this assessment will determine whether Google's commitments are sufficient to alleviate the competition concerns raised.
