Starting May 1, the Norwegian Competition Authority, Konkurransetilsynet, will take over the enforcement of the Good Trading Practices law in the grocery sector. This transition occurs as the Grocery Authority is dissolved, consolidating its responsibilities within Konkurransetilsynet.
Konkurransetilsynet's director, Mads Magnussen, expressed enthusiasm for the new responsibilities and expertise from the Grocery Authority, emphasizing the importance of the grocery market for both businesses and consumers. The Good Trading Practices law is a key tool for ensuring clear and predictable agreements and negotiations within the grocery value chain.
The enforcement of this law will be organized under Konkurransetilsynet's department for food, trade, and health, with a project leader appointed to ensure a smooth continuation of the work. This consolidation is expected to enhance the authority's understanding of the grocery market.
Magnussen noted that the new responsibilities will provide deeper insights into market operations, linking knowledge of negotiations and agreements with existing knowledge of market structure and competition conditions. This will strengthen their ability to promote better competition in a market crucial for consumers.
Tor Erik Engebretsen, director of the Grocery Authority, highlighted the importance of continuity in the work being done. He acknowledged the Grocery Authority's efforts in building knowledge, establishing dialogue, and providing guidance in the industry, expressing gratitude to the staff and industry players for their collaboration.
From May 1, Konkurransetilsynet will be the contact point for all inquiries regarding the Good Trading Practices law, including questions about regulations, guidance needs, and tips on potential violations.
