The Latvian competition authority (KP) received a merger notification on August 14, 2026, from VITA markets, concerning the acquisition of rights to operate a store located at Siguldas šoseja 8, Berģi, previously operated by SKAI BALTIJA under the 'Sky' brand.

VITA markets primarily engages in retail trade in non-specialized stores, focusing on everyday consumer goods. The store at the specified address was previously involved in the retail of daily consumer goods.

The merger could potentially impact competition in the local retail market for food and everyday consumer goods, as well as related markets such as prepared food production, wholesale of prepared foods, and procurement of everyday consumer goods in Latvia.

VITA markets plans to continue providing retail services for food and everyday consumer goods at the merger object, establishing an ELVI branded store there.

The KP is required to make a decision on the merger's approval, prohibition, or conditional approval within one month of receiving the notification. If a more in-depth investigation is necessary, the decision period may be extended up to three months from the notification date.

Market participants or other interested parties wishing to provide feedback on the merger's impact on competition are invited to contact senior economist Andris Vītols or fill out the provided questionnaire by August 26, 2026.
