The Polish competition authority, UOKiK, has initiated proceedings against CANAL+ Polska, alleging that the company misled consumers about the duration of access to its Mistrzowska Piłka package. Consumers reported losing access to the package despite their contracts still being valid.

UOKiK's investigation revealed that sales consultants failed to inform consumers that access to Mistrzowska Piłka would end on June 30, 2024. In some instances, consultants assured customers that the package would remain available for the entire contract duration, leading to confusion.

Furthermore, promotional documents may have reinforced the belief that consumers would have access to Mistrzowska Piłka beyond the stated date. While the company indicated availability dates extending past June 30, 2024, the detailed contract terms clarified that access would only last until the end of June.

UOKiK President Tomasz Chróstny emphasized the importance of clear and truthful information for consumers, especially when selecting television packages to follow specific sports events. If the allegations are confirmed, CANAL+ Polska could face fines of up to 10% of its revenue.

Additionally, UOKiK has opened another investigation into changes regarding access to LaLiga matches, following consumer complaints about being misled about the availability of certain games despite the company holding exclusive broadcasting rights.
