From May 28 to 31, the senior expert of the Latvian Competition Authority, Patrīcija Bodniece, attended the XXXI International Congress of the European Law Federation (FIDE) in Katowice, Poland. This significant event gathered around 500 participants, including judges and advocates from the European Court of Justice, representatives from national supreme courts, and officials from EU institutions.
During the congress, the Latvian Competition Authority presented a national report on the topic 'EU Digital Economy: General Framework (DSA/DMA) and Specialised Regimes.' This report was included in the official congress publication, highlighting the importance of fair digital market operations amidst the concentration of power in the hands of certain private companies.
The aim of the report was to explore the institutional mechanisms that member states have implemented to support the new EU legal regime, as well as other critical issues likely to affect the effectiveness of both regulations in the coming years.
FIDE, established in 1961, is an international organization dedicated to promoting the development of European law and strengthening cooperation among lawyers, academics, and representatives of national institutions in the context of European integration. This year's event was organized by the Polish European Law Association, which has held the FIDE presidency since 2023.
The Latvian Competition Authority takes pride in its colleagues' active participation in this congress.
