The ACM has approved a hydrogen pilot project by distribution system operator RENDO in Hoogeveen, involving heating 80-100 newly-built homes and up to 18 existing homes with hydrogen. Residents can voluntarily participate, with existing homes having the option to switch back to natural gas. The project aims to explore the use of hydrogen for heating, with safety oversight by the Dutch State Supervision of Mines and compliance with consumer protection rules. The initiative aligns with the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy's safety guidelines for such projects.
