20.05.2024 | Belgian competition authority

The Belgian Competition Authority has approved VLH Holding's acquisition of six Delhaize Le Lion/De Leeuw shops, ensuring no significant impediment to effective competition in the relevant markets.

The Belgian Competition Authority (BCA) has given the green light for VLH Holding BV to acquire sole control of six Delhaize Le Lion/De Leeuw NV shops. The acquisition involves shops located in Antwerp, Houthalen, Genk Waterschei, Diest, Hasselt, and Sint-Truiden.

VLH Holding BV, a holding company operating AD Delhaize shops in Belgium, sought to take over these locations. Delhaize Le Lion/De Leeuw NV is engaged in retailing food and daily consumer goods in Belgium and Luxembourg.

The BCA's decision on May 16, 2024, utilized a simplified procedure due to no significant hindrance to competition in the relevant markets. The acquisition did not raise any objections during the review process.
