The Hungarian competition authority, known as GVH, has had its 2025 activity report approved by the Economic Committee of the National Assembly. GVH President Csaba Balázs Rigó highlighted the authority's commitment to consumer protection, support for national economic processes, and collaboration with compliant businesses during the committee meeting.
In 2025, the GVH imposed fines totaling over 3.7 billion HUF and granted 3.3 billion HUF in fine reductions to cooperating companies. This financial impact has remained within the Hungarian economy, with consumers receiving approximately 800 million HUF in direct compensation from businesses that violated regulations, thanks to GVH's actions.
Rigó emphasized the authority's focus on combating cartels, investigating global tech companies and online platforms, and monitoring food retail companies. The GVH also operated an online price monitoring system, contributing to inflation control.
In his remarks, Rigó stressed the importance of protecting vulnerable consumer groups, particularly children and families, as a long-term commitment to ensuring fair and transparent market operations. He expressed the authority's ongoing dedication to safeguarding the interests of Hungarian citizens and maintaining fair market competition amidst global uncertainties.
Erik Bánki, the chairman of the Economic Committee, praised the GVH's performance in 2025, noting its compliance with legal obligations and effective management. The GVH actively protected consumers, assisted compliant businesses, and supported national economic processes, particularly in addressing war-induced inflation.
The full report for 2025 is available on the GVH's official website, including a flipbook version.
